ARCHIBALD LAUDER
Be yourself everyone else is taken, so the saying goes. And when it comes to the spirit of Lauder's never was a truer word said. For our founder Archibald Lauder was nothing if not his own man. Born in Glasgow, he was regarded as an eminently social fellow and splendid companion. In fact he was such a man of the people, that he created Lauder's to please the palate, inviting 'many good friends of cheer to taste and remark upon each concoction' - a true man of the people indeed.
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
Every story starts somewhere, and the Scottish city of Glasgow is where Lauder's was born. Way back in 1871 in fact, when Archibald opened the doors of Lauder's Bar at No. 76 Sauchiehall Street (doors that remain open to this very day). A place of character, a place for conversation, the bar brought people from many walks to life together under one welcoming roof. And it was within these walls that Archibald decided to lend his good name to a brand new whisky, one that would journey far beyond the city where it all began.
SOMETHING A LITTLE
DIFFERENT
Archibald’s entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond bars and whisky, to the somewhat curious barber shop that could be found in the basement of Lauder’s bar. Patrons could treat themselves to a haircut or a moustache wax without having to leave the pub. Some might say this was a cunning ploy to keep people in the establishment for longer, but perhaps it was just another example of a fellow who lived life a little differently from the rest.
